“Honourary Winnipeg Innovation Alley” Officially Unveiled

Winnipeg, January 16, 2015 – Today, Mayor Brian Bowman officially unveiled Honourary Winnipeg Innovation Alley in a ceremony at AssentWorks, joined by members of Winnipeg’s emerging start-up community including Michael Legary, chairman of StartUp Winnipeg.

“The City of Winnipeg is proud to honour our creative and successful start-up community by renaming Adelaide Street Honourary Winnipeg Innovation Alley,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “As Winnipeg grows toward a population of one million people, focusing on innovation and technology has never been more important. Technology and innovation are the fuel for growth and the new economy, and individuals and businesses in our start-up sector are not only breaking new ground, they are achieving international success and attracting some of the brightest and most entrepreneurial spirits to our City.”

Among the organizations located on Winnipeg Innovation Alley are makerspace and workshop AssentWorks, the Manitoba Technology Accelerator, the Canadian Youth Business Foundation, RampUp Manitoba, and Internet and information security firm Seccuris Inc. 

“Today is a great day for the innovation community in Winnipeg - we’re honoured to be recognized for the efforts of the hundreds of volunteers and dozens of Manitoba businesses that have made StartUp Winnipeg and Innovation Alley possible,” said Michael Legary, chairman of StartUp Winnipeg. “This distinction raises the profile of our start up community, and we are committed to continuing to establish strategic and mutually beneficial relationships in our City, nationally, and internationally to grow stronger over the next decade.”

Adelaide Street from William Avenue to McDermot Avenue is designated as Honourary Winnipeg Innovation Alley.
