STATEMENT FROM MAYOR BRIAN BOWMAN REGARDING ILLEGAL DRUGS ON OUR STREETS

WINNIPEG – Today, Mayor Brian Bowman released the following statement regarding a motion he intends to bring forward at the next EPC meeting on September 12, 2018:

“As with cities across our nation, Winnipeg is not immune to the presence of illegal drugs on our streets.

Unfortunately, it has become very prevalent in our city and at an alarming rate.

The presence of illegal drugs is stretching the limits of support groups and health professionals who are struggling to keep up with this crisis.

Addressing this crisis requires a multidisciplinary and collaborative response and cannot be handled by our police service alone.

That is why I will be bringing a motion to the next EPC meeting on September 12 that will seek to bring all government agencies together to take immediate action on collaborative strategies for administrative and government change to assist the crisis being felt by individuals, families and our community as a whole.

We need to hear from all voices in our community to find a way forward and together, we will find a way forward.”
